“If this were a review of Colleen, it would be worth 5/5 stars!!! She is attentive, cares about clients, stays in touch, and really does work hard to serve those the firm chooses to represent. Over two years I had the pleasure of communicating my case, updates, and my eventual denial with her. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the attorneys at this firm. Two years. Countless engagements. Countless opportunities to establish rapport. Countless chances to ask me how my life events brought me to a place where I needed legal representation... and Mr. Archuletta never once made contact. Not when he accepted my case. “You get a AI answering, then emailing the same questions, then wait 2 months. Then the AI mails you back that the day after you got of 4 days of ICU for brain bleed, had siezure, went to the VA who then told you that you didn't have a brain bleed. 47 days later you almost die, have 2 surgeries, inability to work with lifelong damage is something they are incapable of winning. Really? How about a real lawyer and doctor, not a bot. And a response in under 2 months? So if it's not low hanging fruit and a hours work they won't be interested. I should have done the math as well, dividing what they claim for recoveries by the years, it's pretty slim for a "national" firm.”

How to Check a VA Malpractice Firm Before You Hire
Reviews are one input. For a claim against the federal government, four other checks matter more, and all four are free and public.
1. Confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing
Every state bar publishes a free attorney lookup showing licence status and public discipline history. Texas's is the State Bar of Texas Find-a-Lawyer directory. A firm that will not tell you which bars its attorneys belong to is the answer to the question.
2. Ask whether they have actually filed FTCA claims
A claim against a VA hospital is not an ordinary malpractice case. It runs through an administrative claim on Standard Form 95 before any lawsuit is possible, and the government — not a private insurer — is the defendant. Ask how many SF-95s the firm has filed and how many of its cases have gone into federal district court under 28 U.S.C. § 1346(b).
3. Check the deadline before you check anything else
Under 28 U.S.C. § 2401(b), an FTCA claim must be presented in writing to the responsible federal agency within two years of the date the claim accrued. Under United States v. Kubrick, 444 U.S. 111 (1979), that clock can start when you knew of the injury and its cause rather than on the date of treatment. Missing it generally ends the claim regardless of its merits, so establish your date first — our FTCA deadline calculator walks through it.
4. Understand what the fee can legally be
FTCA attorney fees are capped by statute. 28 U.S.C. § 2678 limits them to 20% of an administrative settlement and 25% of a settlement or judgment after suit is filed. Charging more is a federal criminal offence under the same section. Any firm quoting a higher contingency on an FTCA case is quoting something the law does not allow.
